Upper Township Senior Citizen Center Renovations

Upper Township, Cape May County, New Jersey

On February 10, 2014, the Cape May County Senior Center celebrated it's grand re-opening in Upper Township. The County operates a series of Senior Centers throughout the County that provide social and nutritional services to its elderly population. Not long ago, this facility required major renovations. As officials proceeded with the planning process to upgrade the facility, it was determined that the Department of Public Works did not possess the expertise to complete the project on its own. In response, the County entered into a contract with The Design Collaborative to prepare plans and specifications for the total architectural, interior design and MEP renovation. Utilizing Small Cities funding, Cape May County elected to complete all activities proposed in the Architect's plans, on time and within budget. These improvements included major interior and exterior renovations, parking lot improvements and sanitary (septic) system improvements. The total construction costs were $674,000.00. The project consisted of interior renovations including redesign of assembly spaces, offices, kitchen, storage and utility rooms and complete replacement of interior finishes. The exterior of the building was entirely restored, with new fire-resistive cementitious siding and asphalt shingle roofing. Mechanical, plumbing, fire suppression and electrical systems were replaced and upgraded as required to support the new construction and renovated spaces. The work further included site improvements consisting of parking lot upgrades and reconstruction of an existing septic field.
